History

Bible Baptist Christian School (BBCS) opened its doors in August 1976 with forty-one students in grades K4-12. The school was led by Pastor Charles Arrowood, founding pastor of Bible Baptist Church, and Steve Triplett, the first headmaster of BBCS. The school featured a traditional education program for grades K4-2 and a motivational learning program (ACE) for grades 3-12. Spanish, home economics and woodworking were also offered, as well as the early and after care program, allowing students to arrive at school by 7:00am, and if necessary, stay until 6:00pm. Highlights of that first year included an enrollment of 72 students by second semester, a competitive flag-football team, a cheerleading squad, and one graduating senior.

Following that humble but exciting beginning, BBCS continued to grow and change while staying true to God and His Word and the goal of excellence in education. Under the leadership of Dr. James Phillips (now Pastor Emeritus), and administrator, Mr. Dan Young, BBCS transitioned from an ACE program to a traditional education program for all grades. In 1980, K3 was added, and the K3/K4 preschool program was launched. The Lord blessed the preschool program with the addition of a summer program and in 2000, the K3 and K4 became a licensed preschool with 29 enrolled. Also in 1980, a full-size gymnasium and a ball field were constructed, which paved the way for a competitive sports program that includes soccer, volleyball, and basketball.

In 1984, Mr. Robert Brinkley became the administrator of BBCS. Under his 17-year leadership, the school saw tremendous growth, numerically and academically, while maintaining the focus of developing a mature relationship with Jesus Christ and a biblical worldview in the lives of the students. As the school continued to grow and thrive, a fine arts program was added that included not only music classes, choirs and bands, but also preschool music classes, handbell & chime choirs, and drama and speech classes. The fine arts department has become an award-winning program with the goal of excellence in using God-given talents to serve the Lord. Through the years, the academic program has also seen growth with changes made in curriculum at all levels.

In 1999, Dr. Ron Allen became the senior pastor of Bible Baptist Church and president of BBCS. Under Pastor Allen’s leadership, the school’s Mission Statement and Four Pillars of Success were developed.

From 2010 to 2016, Dr. Damian Ahrens faithfully served as the Administrator of BBCS. During his tenure, he built strong relationships within the Matthews community and played a key role in strengthening the school.

In 2018, Dr. Brad Parker was appointed as Administrator, bringing with him over 20 years of experience in Christian education. Under his leadership and by God’s grace, enrollment at MCA has grown significantly. Dr. Parker is deeply committed to discipleship, seeking to guide students toward godliness while equipping them for future academic and life opportunities. In 2019, Bible Baptist Christian School was renamed Matthews Christian Academy (MCA) to more effectively connect with and serve Christian families in the Matthews community.
